How to Quit FanDuel: Self-Exclude From Sportsbook and Casino
To quit FanDuel, log in and use its Set Self-Exclusion option on FanDuel's responsible gaming page, then choose how many years. Exclusions start at 1 year. FanDuel says you can exclude from FanDuel alone or "with all of the operators in your state" through a state-wide program, which is the stronger option if you bet on more than one app.
When I quit gambling, I self-excluded from every casino and betting site I had access to, for as long as each one allowed. It isn't a perfect fix, and there are workarounds. But it made gambling harder, and that was a big step forward for me.
Timeout vs. self-exclusion
FanDuel offers two very different tools, and they're easy to mix up:
- Take a Timeout: locks you out for 3 to 365 days. When it ends, you're back in.
- Self-Exclusion: a longer, measured-in-years exclusion. This is the one to use if you want to stop.
FanDuel also lets you raise or remove deposit limits after a cooling-off period: 3 days for daily limits, 7 for weekly, 31 for monthly. Limits slow you down, but they're designed to be undone.
How to self-exclude from FanDuel, step by step
- Withdraw your balance first.
- Open FanDuel's self-exclusion page. Go to fanduel.com/playwithaplan/casino-and-sportsbook and click Set Self-Exclusion.
- Log in and choose the number of years. Choose the longest available.
- Want the account gone for good? FanDuel says to contact its customer support team through support.fanduel.com to close your account.
- Then go wider. Join your state or province's program (below), so every licensed sportsbook locks you out, not just FanDuel.
Block every licensed sportsbook at once
Excluding from one app leaves every other app one download away. Most places where FanDuel is legal run a program that covers all licensed operators:
- Ontario: BetGuard blocks every regulated Ontario site with one registration.
- Alberta: FanDuel is licensed in Alberta's market, where one registration blocks every licensed site.
- US states: most states with legal sports betting run a voluntary self-exclusion list through their gaming regulator. Search "[your state] gaming commission self-exclusion", or ask the helpline below.

Guides for other casinos (24)
Block it everywhere: how to block gambling sites on your phone and computer, and how to block gambling payments at your bank.
- Every account you have. Search your email for sign-up and promo messages to find sites you've forgotten, and self-exclude from each one.
- Physical casinos. Provinces and states run self-exclusion programs for land-based casinos too.
Block the workarounds
- Blocking software. GamCare lists several tools, including BetBlocker (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Fire OS) and Gamban. Install one on every device.
- Your bank. Ask your bank about blocking gambling transactions on your cards.
- Your feeds. Mute sportsbook accounts and turn off betting app notifications. Promotions peak around big games.
- Someone you trust. Tell one person what you've done.
If it still doesn't feel like enough
Self-exclusion kept me out of the casinos, but for a year and a half it didn't quiet my head. What finally did was filling that time with something else: here's how chess helped me quit gambling.
