How to Quit DraftKings: Self-Exclude From Sportsbook, Casino and DFS

Chains and a padlock locking out DraftKings and other gambling apps: how to self-exclude from DraftKings

To quit DraftKings, go to DraftKings' self-exclusion page, click Log In To Self-Exclude, choose your time frame and submit. You're logged out immediately. According to DraftKings, one request excludes you from every DraftKings product, in all locations: the Sportsbook, Casino, Golden Nugget Online Gaming, DFS and Pick6, DraftKings Horse and Racing, DraftKings Predictions and the Jackpocket lottery courier.

When I quit gambling, I self-excluded from every casino and betting site I had access to, for as long as each one allowed. It isn't a perfect fix, and there are workarounds. But it made gambling harder, and that was a big step forward for me.

What DraftKings self-exclusion blocks

Until your period ends, DraftKings says you can't place wagers on DraftKings or Golden Nugget, order lottery tickets, buy event contract positions or enter fantasy contests. It's one of the broader exclusions out there, because it covers the whole family of apps, not just the one you used.

How to self-exclude from DraftKings, step by step

  1. Withdraw your balance first. Do it now, all of it, and don't place "one last bet" with it.
  2. Close or settle any Predictions positions. DraftKings says if you have open event contracts when you self-exclude, you won't be able to sell them.
  3. Open the self-exclusion page. Go to rg.draftkings.com/breaks/self-exclusion and click Log In To Self-Exclude.
  4. Choose the longest time frame offered. A short break just means a date circled on the calendar.
  5. Submit. You'll be logged out right away. Then delete the apps and turn off their notifications.

State-specific notes from DraftKings

  • Connecticut: excluding from DFS on DraftKings also adds you to the state's list, which blocks fantasy, online casino, online and retail sports betting with every operator in Connecticut. For a lifetime exclusion, sign up through the Department of Consumer Protection.
  • Kansas: excluding from DraftKings Sportsbook may also add you to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission's list.
  • Kentucky: DraftKings Horse and Racing customers are added to the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Commission's list.
  • Pennsylvania: to block every fantasy site in the state, enroll with the PGCB as well.
  • Iowa and Louisiana: the state regulators run their own programs that cover casinos too.

Block every licensed sportsbook at once

DraftKings' exclusion covers DraftKings' apps. Your state or province's program covers everyone else's:

Block it everywhere: how to block gambling sites on your phone and computer, and how to block gambling payments at your bank.

  • Every account you have. Search your email for sign-up and promo messages to find sites you've forgotten, and self-exclude from each one.
  • Offshore and crypto casinos. State lists can't block them. Exclude on each site directly.

Block the workarounds

  • Blocking software. GamCare lists several tools, including BetBlocker (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Fire OS) and Gamban. Install one on every device.
  • Your bank. Ask your bank about blocking gambling transactions on your cards.
  • Your feeds. Mute sportsbook accounts. Promotions peak around big games.
  • Someone you trust. Tell one person what you've done.

If it still doesn't feel like enough

Self-exclusion kept me out of the casinos, but for a year and a half it didn't quiet my head. What finally did was filling that time with something else: here's how chess helped me quit gambling.
